On Friday, May 17, 2024, Brooks Crossing Innovation & Opportunity Center (BCIOC) had the honor of hosting U.S. Sen. Mark Warner for a crucial discussion on the childcare crisis and workforce development barriers.
Newport News city leaders, including Assistant City Manager Eoghan Miller, Councilman Cleon Young, and Mayor Phillip Jones, were also present to highlight the urgent need for more daycare providers. Lisa Z., Senior Project Manager for Newport News, welcomed our guests and briefed the audience on BCIOC’s workforce development initiatives and the upcoming Youth Career Program (YCP), launching on June 24, 2024.

During the event, Senator Warner, Jenifer Parish, Director of Peake Childhood Center, and Dr. Porter Brannon, VPCC, led a conversation about the new Peake Childhood Center, scheduled to open in Newport News by fall 2024 along 14th Street and Jefferson Avenue.

Brooks Crossing Innovation & Opportunity Center continues to build partnerships that drive change and foster economic growth in business, education, training, and career development.
